Power in the mix

Power in the mix

Nearly one month after YCC 2011 Award Night festivities, YCC caught up with this year’s first-place European winners in the music discipline. The three rising stars may all be students at IED Roma but approach their work differently. Read on to learn about this formidable trio (in alphabetical order).

Roberto Attanasio

Roberto, who is studying Sound Design, considers himself spiritual – which could explain why he, despite his studies, enjoys traveling to places where “the sound of civilization” does not exist and he can follow the voice of nature.

Closer to home, Roberto is set on finishing his coursework at IED and pursuing a career in experimental and electronic music, with the German electronic music label Raster-Noton as his main inspiration.

Coming in first in YCC, Roberto says, was a “big joy, and gave us the desire to keep competing.” It also reinforced the sense that they’re on the right path creatively. He hopes the victory is the first step in the “long walk” towards the music world.

Michele Baldi (cover picture)

Michele calls himself a private person – who also loves to breakdance in the streets and “breathe in the town” after training. As a Music major, he gets inspired by a number of artists and listens to the most acclaimed international producers and sound designers to try to discover their secrets.

For the YCC project, Michele reports that the deadline coincided with school exams. But with key words of the brief “printed on our minds”, the piece came together.

“It seemed like everyone already knew the way, as if the previous months let our ideas grow in silence.”

Jacopo Bruschini

Drawn to music and its role in advertising, Jacopo – who, like Roberto, is a Sound Design student – considers himself the sensible and playful one. He is intrigued by the influence of music and sound on everything that surrounds us.

As for the winning YCC 2011 piece, Jacobo says they were encouraged by the “countless” pieces they had already created around TV spots and movies for school. Although the YCC brief was a challenge, the three found their celebratory and young sound.

And they did it with style.

Congratulazioni once again…
