Discover the 2009 winning photography students’ creative journey

Jakub Vlcek and Juliana Krizova, from the Faculty of Arts at J. E. Purkyne University in Czech Republic, won the photography discipline in 2009. Here they tell us in their own words, why they took part in the competition and what they gained from the experience.

Why we decided to take part in Young Creative Chevrolet 2009
Juliana and I found it to be an exceptional experience to participate in Young Creative Chevrolet and create a photo shoot of a car in cooperation with Chevrolet; a totally new experience for us and therefore a real challenge.

Our witness trip to Zurich
As part of our prize we got the opportunity to spend two days in Zurich, Switzerland, working alongside French automotive and people photographer Dingo on a series of photos featuring the new Chevrolet Spark mini car and aimed at the European lifestyle and consumer media. The photo shoot in Zurich was a really valuable experience for us. It was great to see Dingo, who is a real master of his profession, and the whole team working. Fortunately, we could be involved in the process of creating the campaign not only as spectators but also as active contributors. Thanks to everybody who was there and made these days so pleasant for us.

What are we doing now?
Juliana and I both study at the department of photography, but I already do photography for a living as well.

Our advice for students participating in future Young Creative Chevrolet contests
For the photo discipline we would advise you to think about the picture first in order to have a clear brief. Then take the camera and go on your photoshoot.Furthermore, working as a team was beneficial for us. We have been working as a team for more than three years and we share all the ideas that come to our minds. The process of filtering good and bad ideas is much faster when we work as a team. That was the case with Chevrolet and Young Creative Chevrolet as well.
